I was mainly based in Tenerife, but I did make in overnight excursion to Las Palmas de GC. This was the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, so there was a bit of a lull in the Carnaval events that night. But I still savor the memory of falling asleep with the sound of Atlantic waves right outside my hotel's balcony!
I'm SO glad you liked it...although *some* grumpy people might question whether going to drunken street parties every year qualifies as "work and research"😂
As always, a fascinating read
Thanks so much!
Like the Hawaiian islands, which are my favourite place on the planet, the larger Canary Islands all have an unspoilt windward stretch of coast
Loved this story!
Fascinating to hear about the Canary Island roots of the Spanish Civil War.
Weirdly, Sabrina and I are working on a story about Gran Canaria right now. We stayed just outside Las Palmas a few winters ago....
I can only echo the comments you both made about the pleasures of exhaustive fieldwork!

Great stuff as always, you put a lot of work and research into this newsletter, as a reader I'm very grateful!

Field work is a necessary part of the job in my opinion 😜😁
